Atomic Kitten’s Natasha Hamilton Opens Up About Breastfeeding Struggles and Anxiety.
The 41-year-old pop star – who shares 21-year-old Josh with her former partner Fran Cosgrave, 18-year-old Harry, 13-year-old Alfie with Gavin Hatcher, Riad Erraji, 7, Ella Rose, and five-year-old singer Richie Neville, and two-month-old Kitty with husband Charles Gay – believes there’s “pressure” on women to breastfeed, as she shared her struggles.
“I feel there’s a lot of pressure when it comes to breastfeeding,” she clarified. Yes, it’s amazing, but things don’t always go as to plan.
“I tried to breastfeed my two boys; one wasn’t getting anything, and the other turned into a nightmare. I breastfed Ella, which was fine for two months, but every time I breastfed, I started feeling genuine concern in my stomach; it was really strange. As soon as she latched on, my stomach started churning as if something bad was about to happen.
“So, I couldn’t wait to take her off the breast. It took about four weeks to wean her off the breast because every time she’d take the bottle, she’d throw up.
The singer of Atomic Kitten did, however, continue to state that she has so far been successful in nursing her youngest child and that things are “going really well” now that the infant is able to drink from a bottle.
She said, “For now, I’m breastfeeding with Kitty. But Charlie will feed her at around 3 am. To be honest, I’ve already been thinking about it. It’s this milk that drives me crazy, and when it’s in her, it makes me fall asleep while feeding. We’ve been successful in bringing Kitty onto the bottle, which is great for both of us.”
